The Wombats - School Uniforms -- The Wombats Proudly Present: A Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation (2007)

One of my all time favorite bands now, with their debut album The Wombats Proudly Present: A Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation. The band consists off Matthew Murphy, Daniel Haggis and Tord Ă˜verland-Knudsen and was formed in Liverpool. The trio plays some of the most catchy indie rock music out there and the band obviously is one of the most known acts because of this. I fell in love with them a year before this release, when the Girls, Boys & Marsupials release came out as well as with some of the earlier released singles. Not sure if the Girls, Boys & Marsupials record is the debut album or not, this one only came out in Japan so I guess it's open for discussion but I guess for us Europeans the actual debut album was The Wombats Proudly Presents...

The record contains most of the songs that already where on the Girls, Boys & Marsupials with some new ones like Kill The Director and Lets Dance To Joy Division to name two of them. Which were of course excellent additions to an already excellent album. Which created an awesome debut album, which was followed up by an excellent second album as well last year. The record is known by all of you I assume so I won't bother you any longer by talking about it then.

Only thing left to say is which song I'm posting, and this will be the School Uniforms songs, because of one part of that song I adore. I simply love to sing along to "I remember short skirts, long hair, my hormones flying everywhere". I hope you guys do as well. No official video of this track, so am uploading a live version, not the best quality but we all know the song right? soooo enjoy!

The Dykeenies - Clean Up Your Eyes -- Nothing Means Everything (2007)

Up now is a Scottish band I simply adore since the debut album came out. I remember I used to be a demonoid user back then and I basically downloaded everything I didn't know in the indie category. Found some brilliant bands back then! Man I really miss that site, well alternatives enough of course. The band I'm going to talk about is The Dykeenies. The album I'll be talking about is Nothing Means Everything.

The Dykeenies are a four piece originating from Cumbernauld (seriously where the hell is this place?), Scotland. The band has two studio albums out already Nothing Means Everything from '07 and Canyon of Echoes from '11. The debut record is one of my most played records of all times and I know all the songs by heart. The second one is less good for me, decent enough to put on occasionally but nothing extraordinary, maybe it needs a few more listens though. If you never heard of them I strongly advice you to start with the debut album and in particular the Clean Up Your Eyes, Pick You Up and New Ideas songs. The record in general is characterized by fast paced indie rock with some good vocals with an not too obvious but still oh so awesome Scottish accent, seriously what accent is better than this?

The song I'm posting for you guys tonight is the Clean Up Your Eyes song. Two reasons, it's my favorite and it has an official video. Hope you guys enjoy!

Split up last year, so no official or active site/profile anymore. =/

Yellowcard - Ocean Avenue -- Ocean Avenue (2003)

Next up is Yellow Card, again a band I'm listening to for quite some time. To be exact since my early teenage years, age 13 more and less. Right now I'm not that much into the punk rock genre anymore, but some bands I still am able to enjoy a lot, especially Yellowcard (explains the post) and Rise Against (explains the blog title). The Ocean Avenue album in 2003 didn't actually blew me away, I wasn't that much into music back then so the album didn't really get the chance to do it I guess. I did have few songs of the album and the Ocean Avenue song itself is right now my favorite by the band but it didn't strike me as being that excellent at first. Two albums later all that changed though, I developed in huge a music freak in 2007 and played the new record over and over. So I was and still am a huge fan of the Paper Walls album when it came out. I guess I'm one of the few people that actually finds this album better than the Ocean Avenue one, but I did back then and I still do right now.

About the newer material I can't say that much, I have it but I really don't listen to it. Which is a shame, I know, but whenever I feel like it I put on Paper Walls and nothing else, Maybe I should change that tonight and put on When You're Trough Thinking, Say Yes or Southern Air or look for the two first albums online to add to my media library, who knows. For now it's Paper Walls while typing this, and I'm happy with it, haha.

The song itself has an entertaining video and excellent lyrics to sing along to with good punk rock music supporting them. It really gets me nostalgic whenever I listen to music like this, it's a bit like Deftones and the harder music when I was a kid, but now for my early teenage years, the years right before I listened to Indie Rock a year or two years later in 04/05. So yes I'm not that much into it anymore but you may expect some bands like this, just because I have some history with them and I enjoy ranting about them. I'm not even sorry, haha. For now enjoy the song and go back to whatever age you were when you found out about Yellowcard.
